There was a university engineering faculty researcher in England who created a new super-glue that was extremely powerful. He took it to the Ford motor company in the US and they were very interested in it.
Then they asked “How does it work?” and the researcher was unable to answer. He was told to come back when he had figured it out; few large companies want to buy into something that they cannot patent, or cannot duplicate if something happens to the inventor.
And that is one of the greatest dilemmas of human progress. It is not enough that an invention works for its creator – the process used to create it has to be documented fully, replicable and testable to confirm its validity, otherwise it is unlikely to gain widespread acceptance .
This is especially true for concepts that are based on philosophies and metaphysics. At least with super-glue there is a tangible product whose basic principles are understood, even if the specific chemical composition and the interaction of its ingredients has yet to be decoded.
So the challenge of translating a complex non-scientific belief into a format that any person can instinctively comprehend with nothing more than a glance can be a significant one.
A common practice in technology industries is to create the absolute best possible master version of something – even if the prototype is very complex and costs thousands to produce – and then 'dial back' the concept in incremental iterations until it is eventually simple to use and can be mass-produced at a price-point acceptable to potential customers in its target market.
REFERENCES ARE TIMELESS
Whatever one thinks of the contents of the Bible, it is a classic example of taking something that is written at a level that is written for an audience with a high level of schooling (priests would have read it to their congregation in the centuries before literacy became widespread) and then converting it into a broad spectrum of 'transmedia' formats to suit the academic level and learning style of every kind of person – audio books, childrens picture books, movies, and even the occasional game.
Not only that, but the writers attempt to address the question of whether the non-spiritual-related statements that it makes are credible by providing historical and archaeological detail in the text that researchers can use as a basis for attempting to verify the accuracy of at least some of the details – in the same way that modern researchers place reference lists at the end of their papers so that others can academically evaluate the contents of the paper.
It may not have been the intention of biblical authors to include verifiable information about their society just for the sake of skeptical researchers thousands of years later – it was likely for the purposes of chronicling the current events of that era – but it surely set a useful example of the principles of comprehensive data-recording for the writers of future reference works to follow
FROM SPIRIT TO SCIENCE AND BACK AGAIN
In 2010, Sambiglyon tried to develop a method of translating intangible metaphysical concepts from across human history into non-spiritual ideas that would be acceptable to a professional audience and perhaps even form the basis of future products. We came up with a tool named the Science To Spirit Ring, shown below.
The StoS Ring was designed to provide a visual proof that scientific method and spiritual belief do not have to be diametrically opposed to each other and considered to be irreconcilable but can in fact - if differences in moral principles are put aside – be the same model of the operational mechanics of the Universe described in two very different frames of reference but still sharing the same set of Universal rules nonetheless.
The uppermost and lowest ranges of the scale of the Ring tool represent two different approaches to describing the Universe: the former in terms of faith-based beliefs, and the latter in terms of the rules governing hard science.
The Ring is purposely designed not to provide ready-made solutions but instead guide the user's thought processes towards working out solutions on their own, making it ideal for worldwide use in the full spectrum of personal, educational and professional applications that humans encounter.
The average person who lives their life by a code of faith has no problem with believing in the Ring's 'middle ground' of atoms and energy. It is primarily where those fundamental building blocks come from that is the point of contention between people of spirit and science. But at least each side can agree upon some common ground!
MEETING ON THE MIDDLE GROUND
For the spiritually minded person, their belief-system really begins in that Energy middle ground of the Ring where the beliefs of the scientific world end. For the scientist, Energy is the end-point of everything, a horizon that they need not look beyond, whilst for people of faith it is the beginning of a further journey.
So instead of each side standing at their distant ends hurling arrows at each other's fortification, the middle ground is where Science and Spirit should both be courageous enough to walk out to with a flag of truce and look at what they agree on, not what divides them.
No matter whether one views the Universe from the perspective of scientific / spiritual mechanics or instead from the perspective of wondering how they fit into the big picture of a spiritual Creation, the StoS Ring tool can provide insights that help one to find answers to very big questions.
BREAK IT UP!
There is a saying that “once one understands the rules of a medium then you can apply them in a new way.” The StoS Ring tool assists with this by showing its user one possible interpretation for the different layers of mechanics in our Universe (after all, no mortal truly knows for certain how the Universe actually works and one can can only make best-guess theories that make logical and / or scientific sense, as Sambiglyon have done with this tool.)
The user can then find the segment of the Ring that their intangible, difficult-to-prove idea best fits into at its current stage of development and work their way clockwise or anticlockwise along the circumference of the Ring in order to plan what design stages they need to go through next.
For instance, a person starting with a raw notion based on a belief unsupported by empirical data might begin their planning at the Spirit end of the Ring, which can represent an idea that does not yet have solid form or rules, and gradually move clockwise along the circumference of the Ring, progressively adding tangibility to the idea until it has solidified into a fully realized blueprint at the furthest Science end of the Ring's scale.
Conversely, a person with the finished blueprints to a complex technology or process who is seeking to enhance the system by simplifying it may start at the lower Science end of the scale and break down the rigid, assembled structure of their system into its component parts, as though they were loose atoms.
They can then go on to disassemble those idea-atoms further so that they can reduce them to their purest, most fundamental form. From that point, they can develop a new philosophy for a better way to put them back together into a whole that is greatly superior to the original.
The process is deliberately designed to be similar to a science-fiction matter transportation 'beaming' device which can either turn loose, unformed energy into a collection of atoms and then a physical object, or instead break that complex-structured solid object down into extremely simple energy. It is akin to visualizing an idea in the mind, pushing a slider switch along a control panel and watching that visualization manifest into a physical item.
Spirit versus Science does not have to be a Them versus Us situation, with neither side giving an inch of ground to the other. Each perspective has much to offer the other.
Just as one can learn valuable lessons from studying history, believers and researchers can positively accelerate the pace of humanity's development by each opening the doorway into their opposing realms and crossing the hall. Just for the sake of curiosity…
